I followed the progress and supported the creation of several green lanes (Beaudoin, Yamaska, St Zotique, Marin, Bourgeoys, Irène, Du Collège…) |
These public spaces in Montréal are under-utilized. And yet, they have the potential to become magical places for residents to enjoy walking, playing, meeting with neighbours, organizing block parties. |
Lanes are also spaces where rain runoff can be directed directly into the ground, benefiting the local environment.Where green spaces are most needed |
Following the examples of boroughs like Rosemont-La-Petite-Patrie and Plateau-Mont-Royal, the Southwest announced in the summer of 2013 that it would invest in residents’ efforts to embellish and green their laneways.Without these engaged citizens, there would be no projects since it is them, with the support of the Eco-Quartier, who clean up, who design and who develop their alley into a beautiful green lane for everyone to enjoy. |
We’ve encountered many technical problems, often related to the poor state of the soil. |
Notwithstanding, I am proud to announce that fifteen new green lanes were produced,
seven of which I contributed personally. |
Work continues to be underway during the summer and fall of 2017. |
