2013 local platform Commitments:

Maintain the moratorium on the conversion of rental units into condominiums.
Require a contribution from property developers
or the inclusion of a certain number of low cost units in their projects.

MY ACHIEVEMENTS

Modification of existing demolition regulations for better protection of tenants and of rental housing stock.
Repeal of Conversion from Rental to Split Condominium Regulations.
Financial support for the creation of Montreal’s first registry of leases.
Increased participation by private projects in the inclusion of social and community housing.
Collaboration with Projet Montréal's housing commitments.

Therefore the regulations on demolitions were modified (my colleague Anne-Marie Sigouin worked to increase the protection of our older buildings with this same regulation).
I worked to repeal the by-law allowing split conversions so that the borough no longer collaborates in this important phenomenon of transformation of rental units into condominiums.

As my colleagues in the boroughs of Plateau-Mont Royal and Rosemont-la-Petite-Patrie had done, I proposed that the Southwest borough offer financial support for the implementation of a public register of all Montreal leases:

Noting the positive results of the local strategy for the inclusion of affordable housing in 2012, I proposed
increasing the requirements towards the inclusion of social and community housing in any private development project that deviated from the existing zoning regulations.

This measure was implemented following the successful experiences in the boroughs
of the Plateau-Mont-Royal and Rosemont-la-Petite-Patrie.
In collaboration with the City of Montreal, I am currently working on a program to create
a land reserve for social and community housing.

  For Projet Montréal

I was actively involved in Project Montréal Housing task force led by Richard Ryan.

Given this mandate on the issue of social housing, I thoroughly documented and quantified the housing needs of Montrealers.

In the context of the Project Montréal leadership race, I proposed that the candidates commit to the issue of housing based on the analysis I had documented.
